Two kinds of storage: the kind that signs you in and remembers your volume, which we cannot run the service without, and advertising, which is off until you turn it on.
Contents
This explains what Stereobox stores on your device and what you can do about it. You can change your choice whenever you like: open cookie settings.
Strictly necessary — always on
These are what makes the site work at all. Under the EU ePrivacy rules — and the German implementation that applies where our servers sit — they do not need consent, because without them the service you asked for cannot be delivered. They set no advertising identifier and follow you nowhere.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
firebase:authUser:* | Keeps you signed in, so you are not asked for your password on every page. | Until you sign out |
stereobox.consent | Remembers this very choice, so you are not asked again. Deleting it brings the banner back. | Until you clear it |
stereobox.surface | Remembers which of the three apps you are using in local development. | The browser session |
| Player state | Your volume, queue and where you were in a track. | Until you clear it |
Advertising — off until you accept
Free listening is funded by advertising, served by Google AdSense. These cookies are the reason a consent banner exists.
| Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
Google AdSense (__gads, __gpi, IDE and similar) |
Chooses which advert to show, counts how many times you have seen it, and measures whether it worked. | Up to 13 months, set by Google |
Until you press Accept, the AdSense script is never downloaded — not loaded and blocked, but never fetched at all — so none of these exist on your device. Google Consent Mode is set to denied before any Google code can run.
To be rid of them permanently, reject them here.
Changing your mind
- On the web: cookie settings, or clear your browser storage for stereobox.io.
- In the app: Settings → Privacy & cookies.
- On a phone, you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in the operating system — Android under Settings → Privacy → Ads, iOS under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Rejecting costs you nothing. The ads simply become untargeted, or absent.
The mobile apps
The Android and iOS apps do not use browser cookies. They use the operating system's advertising identifier for the same purpose, and ask for it the same way — on iOS through Apple's own tracking prompt, which you can refuse.
