How moderation works
Stereobox is a shop and a player for independent music. To keep it safe and fair, people review uploads, reports and copyright notices. This page explains how, in plain words.
The binding rules are in the Terms. To be confirmed by counsel
1. Every upload is reviewed
A new song is "In review" until a member of our team has checked it. It is then published, or not approved with a reason.
We check that the audio plays, the details are honest (title, artist, Generated or Played), and nothing breaks the rules below.
If your song is not approved, you see the reason in your Studio. You can correct it and send it again, or appeal.
2. Reports
Anyone signed in can report a song, release, artist, playlist or profile with the Report button. Reasons:
- Copyright: it uses someone's work without permission
- Impersonation: it pretends to be another artist or person
- Hateful, violent or sexually explicit content
- Scam or fraud
- Spam or misleading content
- A wrong Generated or Played label
- Broken or wrong audio
Reports are private: the person reported is not told who reported them. Serious reasons (copyright, impersonation, hateful content, scams) go to the front of the queue. We aim to look at those within a day and at other reports within three days.
When we decide, we tell the person who reported it, in the app and by email if they want it. You can follow your reports under Account, Reports and appeals.
If we act, we might take a song down, make a playlist private or suspend an account. The owner is told why and can appeal.
3. Copyright notices
Rights holders can send a formal notice under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act or the EU Digital Services Act with our copyright form. No account is needed.
If the notice is complete and we remove a song, we tell the uploader, who can send a counter-notice. We forward it to the sender. People who already bought the song keep their file.
Our designated agent and point of contact, and the exact timing of counter-notices, are to be published. To be confirmed by counsel
4. Appeals
If we did not approve your song, took it down after a report, or gave your profile a strike, you can ask us to look again from Reports and appeals. Someone who did not make the first decision reviews it. We aim to answer within seven days and tell you the result.
5. Strikes
When we remove a song after a valid copyright notice, the artist profile gets a strike. A strike is withdrawn if a counter-notice or an appeal succeeds.
A profile with three active strikes is reviewed by our team and can lose the right to upload. This is how we deal with repeat infringers. To be confirmed by counsel
6. Generated and Played labels
Every song says whether it was Generated (made with generative tools) or Played (performed by people). Artists choose the label and must choose honestly. Read the AI content policy.
7. Transparency
We keep a record of every moderation decision. The EU Digital Services Act asks platforms to publish reports about moderation; ours will be published here. To be confirmed by counsel
