About Stereobox
Shader Bytes · last updated 20 August 2026
A music platform where listening is free, and where an artist can sell a track outright instead of collecting fractions of a cent forever.
Stereobox is a place to listen to music, a studio for the people who make it, and a console for the people keeping the catalogue honest. Stereobox is operated by Shader Bytes, with operations in Germany and India. Full company details, including our registered address and registration number, are on the legal notice.
Why we built it
Streaming solved distribution and broke the economics. An independent artist can be heard by thousands and earn almost nothing, because the only thing on sale is a fraction of a play. Meanwhile the person listening owns nothing at all — the library they spent years building disappears the month they stop paying.
So Stereobox sells the thing itself. Listening stays free and ad-supported. Beyond that, a track can be bought outright, licensed for commercial use, or downloaded to keep. The artist sets the price and keeps the relationship.
How it works
| Tier | What it means |
|---|---|
| Listen — free | The whole catalogue, with ads between tracks. |
| Download — $0.49 in the app | Keep the file. Personal listening only. Bought one song at a time by in-app purchase (Apple or Google Play) in the app, or with a Music Card on the website: $4.90 for 12 songs, $9.90 for 25, $34.90 for 100. |
| License — the artist's price | The standard commercial licence: use the track in a video, a stream, a podcast, an advert. |
| Own — the artist's price | Exclusive. Ownership transfers to you and the track stops being licensed to anyone else. |
The full detail, including what happens to licences already sold when someone buys ownership, is on the pricing page.
The three apps
Stereobox is genuinely three products rather than one with different menus: stereobox.io is the player, studio.stereobox.io is where artists release music and watch how it does, and the administration console is where reports get reviewed. They are separate builds on separate hosts, so what a listener downloads contains none of the other two.
